Researchers at a London hospital specialising in spinal injuries have made an incredible breakthru.
They have found that by transplanting nerves from the nose to the injured spine the patient in this case a rat, recovered some feeling and partial mobility.
This has paved the way for a viable treatment for spinal injured patients, although the research is in its infancy the doctors are hopeful for the future, and say they may be able to begin treatment in 10 years.Though they did stress a full cure is still a long way off.
............................................................
Its thought they will begin with people paralysed in 1 limb E.G an arm and progress from there .
That is great news. It's good to hear when medicine is making progress. Just like the stem cells. They say they can work to rid people of being diabetic. That would be fantastic.
I first heard about this on a programme from France where they were trying to perfect the same treatment, they also figured on 10 years its incredible is NOT the word
Maria some people with untreatable diabetes are being given pancriatic transplants but very few.
You would need to be seriously ill, or in danger of losing limbs ect, before they would even look at you.
